Baja navigator training course

Bajas — the most popular races in Europe — include several world-renowned events such as the Baja Aragón in Spain and the Italian Baja. These competitions take place on well-marked, clearly signposted tracks with simplified navigation, allowing beginner crews to get used to different situations gradually while building experience. The navigator's role, though different from rally-raid, is no less important. Precision, organisation and anticipation are essential assets for winning your driver those precious seconds. What's more, the format of European races makes it easier for beginners to take part, in terms of both logistics and technical support. In short, Baja-type races in Europe are an excellent option for beginners looking to step into the world of off-road racing.

It's with all this in mind that I created this course — an ideal first introduction to off-road rally. With an in-depth theory section and plenty of practice, you'll master the essentials of co-driving: reading and interpreting both electronic and paper roadbooks, using the navigation instruments, time checkpoints, in-car communication, emergency mechanics, race management and every key aspect of navigation. The course can be taken individually, as a driver/navigator crew, or in a small group.

THEORY TRAINING:

The theory session takes place on the morning of your first day. This module lasts between 2 and 4 hours, depending on your needs and personal requests. Every course is tailored, and many topics can be covered according to your needs and your rally experience: administrative checks, time checkpoints, navigation basics, roadbook reading, use of navigation instruments, in-car psychology, technical and sporting regulations, and much more. Of course, it's also a moment of exchange, where I answer any questions you may have about the navigator's role.

PRACTICAL TRAINING:

Duration ranges from 1 to 2 days depending on the chosen package. Aboard an off-road vehicle suited to the tracks and equipped for navigation with an electronic or paper roadbook, I offer a series of rally special stages that we tackle together, working on your navigation across the tracks of some of Europe's most famous bajas. The variety of terrain lets us cover every key point and adapt it to your personal needs. Each stage is followed by a debrief, so we can go over the points to work on for the next one. Naturally, the stages are punctuated with varied exercises that will help you progress quickly and prepare for every situation you might face during a baja.
